Chinesco Type B Figure

100 BC to 250 AD

11″ tall by 5 1/4″ wide

A gorgeous Chinesco Type B female figure from Nayarit, Mexico. This example is sculpted in the seated position with her hands to her belly in a fertility gesture. Both her legs are straight out and she has a wonderful heart shaped face that this classification is known for.

The cream painted highlights over the reddish-orange base are wonderfully done and all original to the piece. There is also decoration done in a negative resist. This includes a mask on the face and a diagonal cross on the front and back.

This piece is in mint, as found condition, with no breaks, repairs or restoration.

Ex Meza family collection from Whittier, California. Acquired in the 1960s.
