Mexico
Chinesco Warrior Figure
100 BC to 250 AD
7″ tall
A Chinesco warrior figure from Nayarit, Mexico. He is depicted with an unusually large wedge-shaped helmet while holding a shield and an atlatl in his hands. The horns off the sides of his head are similar to those found on male Zacatecas males.
The piece is beautifully painted in black and red over a cream base. His face has a black thin mask that is found on many Type C figures such as this one.
This is a very rare sculpture with only a few known examples.
Ex Ziff collection from NYC, New York. Ex Merrin Gallery from NYC, New York. Acquired in the 1960s.
