Large Maya Stucco Head Ex Sotheby’s

14′ tall without stand 9 1/2′ wide

A large and heavy Maya Deity Stucco Head from the Late Classic period. An imposing portrait with finely sculpted prominent nose, eyes, lips and teeth, with the remains of a pierced jade headband with remains of ochre and blue-green paint. Red pigment still present on the face. Mounted on a really nice custom base with Sotheby’s sticker still attached.
