Chinesco Type B Figure
100 BC to 250 AD
5 1/2″ tall
A wonderful Chinesco Type B figure from Nayarit, Mexico. He is sculpted in a great pose with his left elbow over his knee as if in deep thought. His right hand holds a bowl with contents over the other knee.
His face has a very desirable heart shape with a mask. The shoulder areas have scarification that is represented by the visible pellets applied. He wears large ear spools, a nose ring, arm bands and a simple loincloth. As with most Type B figures, he has exposed ribs on his back. It is believed this represents life and birth, much like the Aztec Bone God.
This piece came from the collection of the famous singer/composer Andy Williams who is known for “Moon River” and “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”.
Ex Director Jon Huston collection. Collected in the 1960s. Ex Andy Williams collection. Collected in the 1970s.
