Nayarit Female Figure

100 BC to 250 AD

5 1/2″ tall by 3 3/4″ wide

A really nicely painted ceramic figure from Nayarit, Mexico. This is the quintessential example from this culture.

A female is depicted on her knees with her legs open in the fertility pose. Her arms hang down and rest on her hips. She is beautifully painted in red and cream organic pigments. The highlighted areas include a large, multi-strand necklace, armbands, and shorts. They are almost always shown nude on top.

Ex Dr. David Harner Collection from Arkansas. Acquired in the 1950s – 1960s.

This piece is in mint, as found condition and has great manganese deposits.
